The ESIC has come out with a one-time drive for extending social security benefits to all-eligible employers under the ESI Act, 1948, who have till now kept out of ESI coverage.
The Employers including establishments/ factories can register themselves under the Act between December 20, 2016 and March 31, 2017.
Under the scheme, the employers registering during the period will be treated as covered from the date of registration or as declared by them.
The newly registered employees shall also be treated as covered from the date of their registration.
This will not have any bearing on actions taken/required under ESI Act, if any, prior to December 20, 2016.
ESIC had held its 170th Meeting on December 15, 2016, has approved a Scheme to promote registration of Establishments/ Factories and employees coverable under the ESI Act, 1948.
ESIC through a notification has asked the Employers to register the Factory/Establishment under the ESI Act within 15 days after the Act becomes applicable to the unit and has also asked to register their employees immediately.
The principal employer shall pay the employees’ and employers’ contribution. Damages are recoverable for non-payment of any dues in time.
ESIC said a one-time drive is intended to extend the social security benefits to all eligible under the Act, who have till now been kept out of the ESI coverage and is open for the period w.e.f. December 20, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
