The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has installed two air sensors in Peenya and the IISc campus on a trial basis. A team of scientists at the IISc, led by Mahesh Kashyap, has developed an “air sensor” to measure the quantity of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and sulphur oxide in the atmospheric air. These chemical compounds are said to be the main reasons for polluted air.
Mahesh Kashyap said that this instrument is performing beyond their expectations. He said that hi team would gauge the data from the air sensor and make some minor changes.
Kashyap added that compared to the air sensors that require a minimum of 10 feet x 10 feet dimension, the new one measures only 8 inches x 8 inches. This is compact enough to carry from place to place. This instrument can also be used in household residences.
Kashyap said that authorities can use this air sensor to install at malls, routes with more density of vehicles, and industrial areas such as Peenya. He further added that air sensors manufactured by private firms are available in the market at the price of about ₹ 6 lakhs. However, these instruments have not been providing accurate data, and also they will malfunction quite early. Therefore his team at the IISc has developed the air sensor keeping in mind data accuracy and durability aspects of the air sensor.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
