Murali KrishnaSomehow, the people of Bengaluru — and especially the wise and battle-hardened entrepreneurs of Peenya in particular — had a feeling that there will be some kind of a “shock” or some depressing news — soon after the end of the Assembly Elections.
For instance, we have seen how a few days before the Elections, there were no power cuts, streetlights were on, etc and immediately after the elections are over, they miraculously return!
Well, this time, the “shock” is in the form of another hike in power tariff, which came at an increase of 5.3% overall with the hike per unit ranging from a minimum of 20 paise to a maximum of 60 paise.
God save the small entrepreneur. Battling with unscheduled power cuts, hike in minimum wages, regular increase in power tariff, and thinning margins, rising production costs, lack of skilled manpower, and so on and so forth, it is a miracle that one somehow finds the energy, inclination,  ambition, passion and drive to continue to face up to all these challenges in a fiercely competitive market, and strive to survive.
No amount of petitioning the Government seems to be working as the KERC finds newer and newer reasons to justify its repeated hikes in power tariff.
As our President observed in our review meeting on the power tariff hike, ‘this will also end up increasing the cost of production and it would not be an exaggeration to say that the small entrepreneur, faced with so many hurdles at every stage, may even think of shutting down the enterprise.
Friends, we at PIA are not going to let it pass and you can be sure that we will do everything possible and mount a strong agitation to get justice to our industry fraternity.
With warm regards,
B. Muralikrishna.
