[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Karnataka government is planning an Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Policy with the aim of making Bengaluru the electric vehicle capital of the country.
Announcing this, Sri R.V. Deshpande, Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, said with this Karnataka will be the first State in the country to have such an exclusive policy. “We want to showcase Karnataka as an environment-friendly state and this policy will be a step in that direction. The plan is to attract investments in this sunrise sector,” he added.
Welcoming the announcement, Sri R. Krishnamurthy, President, PIA said this will fast-track Karnataka to become the electric vehicle capital of the country, which will be another feather in its cap. “The new policy aims to attract investments worth Rs31,000 crore and create around 55,000 employment opportunities.
The state government is looking to set up new EV manufacturing zones, set up charging stations in public and private spaces including airports, railway stations, metro stations and encourage start-ups to develop business models focused on supporting economic applications for EV’s.
The Government is also mooting incentives and concessions for manufacturers in line with the Industrial Policy 2014-19 throughout the state including Bengaluru district.
All this augurs well for manufacturing units in Peenya who can look forward to benefit from such incentives and also from the increases thrust on Make in India,” he summed up.
This announcement, by the Government of Karnataka, assumed significance immediately after the State-run Energy Efficiency Service Ltd’s (EESL) tender for procuring 10,000 electric cards and 4,000 chargers for coal, mines, power and new and renewable energy ministries in Government of India as well as providing them on rent to other departments in the Government of India.
Energy Efficiency Service Ltd (EESL) has floated a tender for procurement of 10,000 electric cars including complete system warranty under the faster adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles in India (FAME) scheme of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy.
According to the tender, 3,000 AC (alternate current) or slow charger’s and 1,000 DC (Direct Current) fast charger’s compatible with Bharat AC-001 and DC-001 charger specification would be procured. The tender is part of the Government’s plan to promote electric vehicles in the country in a big way.
The fifth largest automobile market currently, India is inching towards become the third largest market by 2020. The union government has also unveiled its vision to make the country an all-electric vehicle market by 2031 to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and reduce its carbon footprint.
In April, the Central Government had said that India would sell only electric vehicles by 2030. However it admitted that it may take a little longer to replace existing petrol and diesel vehicles in the country.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
