Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, Padma Bhushan Awardee, Former Chief Controller, R&D, DRDO, Founder CEO & MD, BrahMos, chaired the event as the Inaugural Guest.

During the Technical Session, Sri M. Malyadri Reddy, President-Elect, PIA stressed on the need and importance of Technical Institutes working with the Industry to ensure that whatever they teach their students, and the structure of their Curriculum, is relevant to today’s requirements of Industry.
Today, change is happening so fast that all of us are finding it very difficult to cope with it. Disruption is the name of the game today. Those who can cope with the change stay ahead of the race, while those who cannot are left behind, he said, and informed that Peenya Industries Association (PIA) is willing to work with the Policy Makers, the Technical Institutes, and all other Stakeholders to help ensure that the Curriculum that is prepared and the learning that is imparted is relevant to the requirements of Industry. It is very important that we keep this process dynamic and focused on contemporary requirements of Industry, so that we can prevent all learning that becomes redundant when the Student comes out of College, he said.
He also informed that Peenya Industries Association (PIA) had taken several initiatives to encourage the youth to start an industry as well as to develop the required skills for becoming job-able. Recently PIA organised a Mega Job Mela where nearly 5,000 unemployed youngsters were offered appointment letters on the spot. PIA is also running a Skill Development Centre where workers and young people are trained in various trades so that they become successful in landing the job of their choice, he said. The State Government too has taken various initiatives to spur job creation and encourage people to become self-employed. The Siddaramaiah Government has accepted many of the suggestions made by PIA on behalf of the micro and small scale industries sector.
For example, industrial land up to 2 acres from development agencies like KSSIDC/KIADB is now available on 10 year lease cum sale instead of 99 years as hitherto. This means that a person who is allotted an industrial shed to start an industry by KSSIDC/KIADB will eventually become owner of the shed after 10 years. This will greatly motivate people to start their own enterprise.
Similarly, the Government now offers soft loans to women entrepreneurs up to Rs 2 crore – increased from the earlier limit of Rs 50 lac – at only 4%. This will also encourage more women to become self-employed and start their own business enterprise.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
