[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In another first of its kind achievement in the country, Karnataka became the first State to recognise animation and gaming as an emerging sector and to announce a dedicated policy, viz. Karnataka Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (KAVGC) policy, details of which was unveiled by IT-BT and Tourism Minister Sri Priyank Kharge at the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) industry-interaction meet held by the Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology on August 23.
“Our aim now is to make Bengaluru the creative capital of the world. We will nurture the ecosystem to churn original IP locally, with global resonance. We believe if the policy is executed effectively and efficiently, the sector will be able to create the maximum number of jobs in the future,” the Minister said.
Lauding the ambitious policy announced by Sri Priyank Kharge, the IT-BT and Tourism Minister, PIA President, Sri R. Krishnamurthy acknowledged that the credit for Bengaluru’s current standing as a leading AVGC destination in the country goes to the State Government’s foresight in 2012, making it the first State to recognise AVGC as an emerging sector.
According to reports, the AVGC sector has generated 0.5% of the country’s GDP and it is now targeted to escalate it to 2.5% by 2022 by remonetising the Indian media industry through a partnership between the Government and industry leaders. This partnership will also help traditional media embrace futuristic opportunities.
According to Sri Gaurav Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of IT-BT and Science & Technology, the Government aims to accelerate growth in the AVGC vertical and help grow Bengaluru as a global AVGC hub. The State will strive to provide continuous support to address any issues that may hinder the growth of this industry, he said.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
